Bill: DSP.052.2518 (Fair Free Trade)

Details

Submitted by[?]: 帝国公明党 (Teikoku Kōmeitō)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: April 2519

Description[?]:

While we believe in Free Trade, we also believe it should not be completely open and unregulated, but rather used as a beneficial tool.

We further do not believe we should be allowing countries to send there exports here with no tariffs, while they diminish and destroy our economy by putting tariffs on our exports.

MessageIf they put tariffs on our exports, they harm their own economy as their people and their companies will be paying higher prices which will mean they will be worse off than our people who, if they buy goods free from tariffs, will have cheaper goods and more money to spend.

MessageNo, if they put tarriffs on our goods, it means our goods are more expensive to buy and therefore there people will buy the less expensive good they make in their own country.

MessageSCP, you need to get a brain. In no way during the previous statement did I suggest or could it even be construed that I did not know what a reciprocal tariff is, I was stating that it is better for us to still have complete free trade, rather than impose tariffs as we will harm ourselves and our own people.

The fact that I said that they would make their people worse off while if we didn't impose tariffs, we wouldn't kind of indicates that I know what reciprocal means and that I am opposed to imposing reciprocal tariffs.

You should get a brain if you find it difficult to comprehend what I am saying.

DSP, a number of things:

1. You assume that they make the same goods in each country, they can't buy goods from their own country that are only made in other countries.

2. Certain goods are only made in certain countries.

3. You assume the tariff makes our goods more expensive to buy, that is not always the case, it could just be a revenue raising measure set by the government (which is often the case). Often, goods can be cheaper even with a tariff imposed (New Zealand lamb in Britain is often cheaper than British lamb, despite the tariff). Furthermore, different foods and products can have different qualities, you get different types of ham, cheese, wine etc, a tax on these will not prevent people from buying them as they like a certain type, therefore a tax on these will actually make their consumers worse off, and if we impose tariffs, make our consumers worse off.

4. If we impose tariffs, we make goods more expensive for our own consumers, for our own businesses, and harm our economy, using the three points highlighted above.
