Bill: Legislature Resizing Bill (2520)
Details
Submitted by[?]: Normand Pluralist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2521
Description[?]:
We propose to reduce the size of the Folkstamma slightly for the following reasons: 1. This cuts down on government expense, freeing funds up to lower taxes or increase services. 2. 600 is a nice, even number. Such a number facilitates calculations for 50% votes (300) or 2/3 votes (400). It is still a sizeable number, ensuring plenty of representation (I have never seen a party with less than 10 seats before, so there shouldn't be any real disenfranchisement as a result of this). |

Message | This is not an affront to democracy. 600 representatives is still a large number, 750 is huge, have you noticed how hard it is to make yourself heard in the Folkstamma? I have. Cutting from 750 to 600 saves the poor of Sekowo a fifth of the cost of government. |

Message | How is this an affront to democracy? This still allows division of popular vote to the sixth of a percent. |

Message | Because it reduces the number of representatives. More Representatives=More Democratic. |

Message | You're talking about a tiny fraction of 1%. Currently, the elections are accurate to 0.13% After this bill, elections will be accurate to 0.16% That's a difference of less than 1/20 of a percent. Hardly less democratic, considering that we only have 8 parties, and the smallest, when they get any votes, always get at least 3% of the vote. |

Message | Even if a party only had 10 seats, this would only reduce accuracy by 1/50 of their representation; hardly likely to have a significant negative democratic impact. |
