Message | So you are suggesting that we should let all doctors and nurses leave their jobs, and to hell with the sick and dying patients? What a terrible thought. |

Message | Indeed. Those categories should not be allowed to strike at all for that very reason. Opposed. |

Message | It doesn't even go that far, Rightist. There's nothing in the current law that prevents certain categories of workers who are critical to society to participate in some action to make their demands know.. as long as a minimal service is ensured. For example ER doctors and nurses can strike in shifts or whatever they like, as long as society doesn't have to pay for their actions. This isn't about restrticting their labour demands, this is about them having a certain responsability. They knew that when they chose their job. |

Message | GLDS, I prefer it that those categories not be allowed to strike at all. That's all I said. I know full well what the current law is but we do not agree with the current law but we also know there is no support for what we want so...this is the next best thing. |

Message | Vote? From my count JUP and I oppose and I'm not hearing any support from the GLDS unless I'm reading his statement wrong. |

Message | Uh? Maybe my reply was a bit worded like a stream-of-consciensness, but my entire statement was about the responsability of employees who're critical to society ensuring a minimal service. In other words, we're quite happy with the current law. |

Message | If these workers who are critical to society do go on strike, their employers would be more inclined to meet their demands. Support |

Message | Either that or play politics and not do so. I know of school districts that have done that during teacher strikes. |

Message | "If these workers who are critical to society do go on strike, their employers would be more inclined to meet their demands." The fact that they are critical gives them a lot more power vis-à-vis their employer during negotiations and bargaining. Unbalanced relationships only lead to so-called hold-ups, or hostage sitations, where one party imposes their will upon the other. Being either employer or employee, it goes both ways. That's why we've always stood for balanced relationships and compromise solutions between two equal partners, which lead to win-win-sitations. After all, the job of the government is to create the best possible environment for them to come to an acceptable solution for both. |
