Message | For decades, as many of you know, UCC has held the position that we support "civil unions" not "marriages" for same sex couples. We believe that there is something noble in trying to keep Christian traditions alive, including the idea of a marriage between a husband and a wife. However, there is no such proposal for anything like a "civil union." This bill will pass or fail based on our vote. Accordingly, we have held long meetings with party leadership and grassroots supporters to discuss our position on this issue. We have long been members of the International Lesbian and Gay Rights Association (ILGRA) and support gay adoption and other issues important to the community. We believe homophobia to be a plague on our culture and believe we must strive to become more tolerant and more accepting of the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered community. For these reasons, we cannot, in good conscience, continue to allow loving and meaningful same gender relationships to be delegated to a second class status. We will vote against this bill because our supporters have told us we should lean on the side of freedom. |

Random fact: Particracy allows you to establish an unelected head of state like a monarch or a president-for-life, but doing this is a bit of a process. First elect a candidate with the name "." to the Head of State position. Then change your law on the "Structure of the executive branch" to "The head of state is hereditary and symbolic; the head of government chairs the cabinet" and change the "formal title of the head of state" to how you want the new head of state's title and name to appear (eg. King Percy XVI). |
