Bill: Act for the Legalisation of Prayer in Schools
Details
Submitted by[?]: New-Revolutionary Communist Party (NRCP)
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: September 2526
Description[?]:
It seems that the illogical and confused politics of the extreme right, which for too long has plagued the Republic, has created an odd paradox within our countries schooling system - namely that of religious expression within schools. If we accept that the existence of independent, privately run schools is a natural and acceptable situation, then surely it is equally logical that these schools should have certain autonomy over their own practices within them, allowing them to be suited to all and every niche in the community. It is puzzling, therefore, that the government only allows the act of prayer to be carried out in specific faith schools, and outlaws prayer in any form at a school which does not limit itself to accepting pupils from a particular religious group. Is it not right that we should allow acts of prayer to be practiced in all schools, and led by teachers, at the school's descression, providing it is also to the wishes of each individual child concerned? |
