Message | Firefighters, police officers, emergency health care workers: it would be profoundly irresponsible for any of these to go on strike denying all services. Some of their services are necessary to maintaining the health and safety of the population against deadly emergencies. If these services are denied, people will die, neighborhoods could burn, or crime could spiral out of control. Will workers in these fields by disadvantaged by their inability to go on full strike? We doubt it. We believe the public recognizes the value of these professionals, and is willing to compensate them well, not just with salary, but with other benefits. And they have other tools at their disposal to increase their bargaining power. Under this law, firefighters and police could permissibly cease responding to non-emergency calls, for example. Even emergency health care workers could refuse to process insurance forms, etc. The Democratic Rationalists are strongly pro-worker, and strongly pro-union. But not so much that we're willing to sacrifice lives and public safety for them. |

Message | Yes, but would current restrictions stop this? Such as the one where said Firefighter Union would have to be for this strike? And irregardless, should they raise they're demands, if the public recognizes the need for them, they'd most likely accept the terms. |
