Bill: Education Reform Act 2531

Details

Submitted by[?]: Centre Démocratique

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2532

Description[?]:

It seems the current law focuses on training students for work. We believe Jelbanian children should be encouraged to think, be innovative, display creativity, and focus on their personal and intellectual developement rather than train for a specific occupation.

MessageSo you are saying that creativity is only necessary for "liberal artists"? Do not businessman, bankers, lawyers, teachers, small business owners, farmers, etc. use creativity in their everyday lives? Does not everyone, no matter what their career or station in life, benefit from an education that is not focused on getting a passing grade on a standardized test?

MessageThat would be a great argument, if those were actually my views. ::straw man::

I never said I supported education based on passing standardized testing. Don't put words in my mouth.

In fact, the proposal supports standardized testing, while the current legislation does not. It seems YOU are the one supporting it, not I.

MessageWe hope we are interpreting the legislation correctly. We believe the current law does discourage standardized testing but focuses education instead on a particular work field/career. We do not want education to just focus on training someone for the work force.

The only other options are 1.) Standardised testing is the primary means of testing the skills and knowledge of students.; or 2.) Standardised testing is secondary to student creativity.

Therefore, the only other option for us is the second, in which testing is secondary to creativity.

PLMO: You are quite correct that nothing in your statements suggests you support education based on standardized testing. We apologize that our statements insinuates that you did.
