Message | We cannot afford to ignore the social and economic consequences of accepting every immigrant who wants come here. The Democratic Alliance has always worked in government to ensure the immigration control system is as efficient, humane and fair as possible. Immigrants have given us great economic benefits and enriched our culture, but introducing a free-for-all would have be certain to undermine our status as a tolerant nation. Let us continue to improve upon the system in place already, instead of abandoning it altogether. |
Date | 15:52:40, September 10, 2005 CET | From | Progressive Liberal Party | To | Debating the Immigration Bill |
Message | We concur with the sentiments expressed by the DA. Whilst we certainly believe in a vibrant immigration programme, we cannot condone the removal of all restrictions. |
Date | 16:03:56, September 10, 2005 CET | From | Fenner Brockway Socialist Party | To | Debating the Immigration Bill |
Message | Unfortunately this reform cannot be undertaken in isolation. Such a radical move will become possible only when other countries agree to take similar steps. FBSP calls on the government to initiate international negotiations for a global relaxation of immigration restrictions. |
