Message | I disagree. The environment is a national issue for three reasons: 1) National government has more power to defend forestry than local governments and given the importance, i think trees need all the standing they can get ;) 2) Local governments are easily swayed to give out logging permits for the economic bonus. No bad thing to boost the local economy, but it becomes a easy remedy at the expense of the trees. 3) The environment is long term. Trees can be quickly cut down but take a long time to grow. For this reason is it vital that they be replanted as soon as their gone. If not forest will quickly disappear. |
