Bill: Teeny Tiny Luxury Sales Tax
Details
Submitted by[?]: Alorian Public Union
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: April 2539
Description[?]:
The APU would like to begin evaluating how we could alleviate some of the income tax with sales tax. We would like to be able to have something to reference to to see what tax rate on luxury goods would be needed to alleviate X amount. To do this, we are proposing a meager 1% tax so we can compute this. We will also reduce the corporate tax in this bill, as we understand it is somewhat controversial and we can afford to reduce it due to luxury sales tax (if this can pass). |

Message | Mmm. We like the income tax rates the way they are. All things considered, they're not that high. A wealthy Alorian with an income of 15,000 ALOs/year pays only 2000/year in income taxes. At 40% marginal rate, his actual tax rate is only %15 of total income. One benefit of the income tax over the sales tax in particular is that the income tax is *stable.* It takes a majority *of the legislature* to alter the income tax, whereas it only takes a majority of voting parties to alter the sales tax. Since MLP is consistently the largest single voting bloc, that naturally makes it much easier for him to repeal any sales tax, and bankrupt Aloria at any given time. Since MLP is also consistently the least consensus-oriented party, that makes it much harder for MLP to repeal any income tax. |

Message | Maybe they should AMP, but they don't. Corporate taxes generate very little revenue. Click the "inspect the budget" link on the "Democratic Republic of Aloria Page" to see how much the corporate tax generates. |
