Message | Great idea--let's remove any reason for businesses or designers to bother with creating anything. Make sure all technology and software is written by hobbyists who have to do something else to make a living. This makes no sense. |

Message | Linux > Windows. Open source allows for freedom and innovation, instead of corporate monopolizes. You really think code is only developed so people can patent it and sell it? Its made because its useful and opening it up allows for constant improvement. |

Message | We approve of article 2, but not article 1. Yes, yes, we know that article 2 pretty much includes article 1, but article 2 is specifically worded as the government not doing something, where article 1 is worded as the government mandating something. And actually, we've used a number of open source programs, and most of them have been pretty craptacular compared to what the corporations make. Yes, that includes Linux and Firefox (though it doesn't include Wikipedia, which is, in fact, better than 'real' encyclopedias, so the fact that most open source is crap should just be taken as a sign of the larger rule that "90% of everything is crap"). However, if the government does not interfere in the market by artificially banning people from standing on the shoulders of others, then perhaps open source actually can become universally better than 'the real thing'. |
