Bill: Nuclear-Free Hobrazia Act 2109

Details

Submitted by[?]: Left Communist Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2112

Description[?]:

Nuclear power, although it is a cheap, middle-line power source, has been proven to produce waste that may cause health risks, cannot be properly discarded, and the plants themselves can meltdown and cause disasters. Therefore, the EUP urges the Parliament of Hobrazia to reduce the energy monopoly on nuclear power.

The government, as part of its Energy Package, will instead merely subsidize nuclear power.

MessageBad timing on this bill. A entire energy package was recently passed centered on nuclear power.

MessageThis bill has one major flaw, what are we going to replace nuclear power stations with?
Renewable sources are, at present, not efficient enough to produce the power requirements that would be needed to replace the high output from nuclear stations.
Fossil fuels would produce more pollution than nuclear power stations, and are more prone to accidents than well maintained nuclear power stations.

Nuclear power is, at present, the cleanest and most cost effective high yield power generation device available to this Country. We are investing large amounts into the research and development of cleaner, renewable sources but until such time as they become viable in producing the high power output that is required to provide for a National Grid system, then Nuclear power is the only alternative.

MessageThats what I meant to say. Our entire energy policy is based mainly on nuclear power, which are as WSS!P pointed less prone to accidents.

I'm re-writting this proposal to merely lessen the dominance of nuclear power.

MessageCurrently Nuclear power is still the best option for producing the majority of Hobrazia's power requirements. If and when that changes we will consider changing our stance, and the current law proposals.
