Details

Submitted by[?]: Likaton Coalition of the Willing

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2544

Description[?]:

To combat the threat of terrorism within out Nation, we propose the following measures

Proposed: There is major censorship of the internet by the government.
we cannot allow these radicals access to a network of communications outside Likatonia. We must make a stand. Personal liberties must be put aside for the greater good.

Proposed: The nation has an intelligence agency that is permitted by law to undertake all types of covert operations in other countries

We must discover where the PCA are getting their weapons. If it is a foreign government, we must take action.

Proposed: All citizens are issued with identity cards but are not required to carry them.

Citizens should carry ID cards where practical, but if not carried, the ID should be produced upon request within 14 days.

Proposed: Only certain types of weapons may be owned by the general public, and there are further restrictions on places where they may be carried.

Only ceremonial or demonstration weapons should be allowed.

Proposed: A civilian police force is in place, backed up by the military.

Until the PCA are brought to justice, we must use all resources to capture these terrorists.

Proposed: Only refugees that are victims of extreme circumstances are welcome; they are given integration-aid.

We cannot allow any malcontents to wander in and take our resources

Proposed: The nation imposes strict border control on visitors, with intensive security checks, to maintain law and order

We must be careful who we allow into our beautiful nation

Proposed: Foreign countries may establish an embassy after obtaining approval from the Foreign Office.

Approval should only be refused in exceptional circumstances, such as the supply of weapons to terrorist organisations

Proposed: Individuals have a right to privacy, but the courts can force individuals to give information on certain matters if needed. (also known as Habeas Data)

Safety must come first

Proposed: Individuals are not permitted to own firearms under any circumstances.

All weaponry should be controlled by the military and police. Citizens have no need of them.

Proposed: Where weapons are carried, this must be done openly.

Again, civilians should not be carrying any weapon. This provision will not apply to licensed government officials and representatives (the military, and the police).

Proposed: Police officers carry military-grade equipment.

Proposed: The state owns national defence industries but these exist alongside privately owned defence industries.

MessageA few issues we don't much like. A few that don't go quite far enough. On the whole though, we are convinced by the argument the LNF makes. We have to stand for something, or we'll fall for anything.

MessageThere are many Articles here which appeal to us greatly, and many more which repel us. We choose to abstain until it becomes apparent whether or not our support is required.

MessageIn response to the DWP - we were similarly ambivalent, but felt compelled to support in light of the .... tactics... that some groups have chosen to embrace.

Random fact: In cases where a party has no seat, the default presumption should be that the party is able to contribute to debates in the legislature due to one of its members winning a seat at a by-election. However, players may collectively improvise arrangements of their own to provide a satisfying explanation for how parties with no seats in the legislature can speak and vote there.

Random quote: "The spread of evil is the symptom of a vacuum. Whenever evil wins, it is only by default: by the moral failure of those who evade the fact that there can be no compromise on basic principles." - Ayn Rand
