MessageThe death penalty costs more to the tax payer than life imprisonment. Your only argument fails.

MessageActually, no. You're assuming lengthy appeals and incarceration while they work through.

I'm thinking of something a bit quicker. (Think China in the real world. Or maybe Singapore.)

Even in extreme cases (that is, very long appeals) the sentence should be carried out in under a year. Otherwise, about a week; maybe two.

MessageThe reason they normally take so long is that you should be very very sure someone guilty before killing them. Spped up the process and more innocent people die. If your saying a couple of weeks (LOL @ your lack of legal knowledge) then to be frank, your either insane or a necrophiliac. You cant appeal in two weeks, so one wrong judgment and bang! Your dead. That's not a legal system, it's genocide.

P.S.

Minor criminal offenses? What exactly come under minor? You gonna kill people for stealing a can of beans?

MessageI hate to break it to (all of) you but I am VERY familiar with legal systems and do have legal knowledge (RL knowledge and experience).

Look at the proposal--this includes "most minor and all major criminal offences." If we want that do you really think we're worried about executing the occasional "innocent." After all, they're probably guilty of SOMETHING. And they certainly won't do it again if they're dead.

And yes, a can of beans might be reasonable. If the only way they have to provide for themselves is theft then they are an unneeded burden on society and are pulling the rest of us down.

MessageThere probably guilty of something! Genius! Why don't we just nuke ourselves? After all people are probably guilty of something and if a few silly innocents get in our way, who cares ey? They'd just have done something in the future anyway.

There pulling who down exactly? What your proposing if a massacre of the working class. And after there dead, whose going to make the profit for the ruling class? Oh dear now their poor and committing crimes and oops! Now their dead too. The'll be no society left the way your going. Maybe we wont need the nukes after all.

Unless of course you have no intention of hunting down everyone who commits a crime and just making a example of the ones you do catch. In which case i propose drawing numbers out of a hat and shooting anyone whose number comes up, that way we wont have to waste all that money on a messy legal system.

MessageOOC

You're confusing my party's position with me. It's a game and I don't necessarily agree with the positions or arguments of the party. I am also somewhat constrained by the options the game offers--the one chosen for this bill isn't the one the FMP would prefer. But it is the closest available option.

I, the RL me, after working for some number of years as a paralegal (in criminal law) went to law school. Now I work in contract law. Much less frustrating.

MessageThe only way this bill makes sense is if all executed criminals have all their organs donated to medicine.

Message(OOC: That too is not an option in the game.)

IC: We like that idea. Lethal injection makes them unusable though. Perhaps execution by removing the organs for use?

MessageIt is preposterous to remove a human life, for even capital crimes.
We, for example, would support criminals to compulsory work for the civil services. At least no civil rights will be infringed, neither criminals would be a waste.
