Bill: Term Length

Details

Submitted by[?]: Conservative Ordo Malleus (COM)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: March 2545

Description[?]:

Now that Parliament is of a more manageable size we no longer need the lengthy term lengths that we once had. A shorter term length will force the important legislation to be acted on each session. Plus, it gives greater control to the people on who they want to represent them when they want that representation.

MessageSize has nothing to do with it. You're just ramming through bills to keep your majority.

MessageLast time the NTP looked, 49 seats out of 250 hardly constitutes a majority!

MessageI wish to thank the NTP for their statements in support of this bill. When Parliament was larger CAM fought to increase the term length. The larger Parliament had difficulty in accomplishing the important tasks set before it. The longer term length was a necessity to ensure that the work that had to be completed was completed.

Now that Parliament is of a smaller size there is no need for a longer term length. As NTP has kindly pointed out, when CAM supported reducing the size of Parliament because it was better for Telamon and all our citizens, CAM lost many seats. CAM fell from 300+ seats in Parliament to just 49. CAM is no longer the largest political party, a position it held for almost 50 years, and CAM is not concerned about that. Why? CAM does what is best for Telamon and its citizens. If that means issuing cuts in CAM's size, or cutting taxes, or working with groups outside the box CAM will do all of those things and more.

Now that this bill is passed CAM is most appreciative of all the support from every corner of Parliament. The signing of this bill into law is an accomplishment in which all can be proud.
