Bill: The Republic of Al'Badara!

Details

Submitted by[?]: Revolutionary Socialist Council

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: February 2111

Description[?]:

This bill is to end the constitutional monarchy that governs this nation. We wish to find out which would be most popular, having HoS and HoG the same person or having an elected HoS and a HoG that is appointed in the cabinet? Part of this bill would be to change the name of our great nation, obviously it would no longer be called sultanate.

MessageI am in in favor of two seperate officials for HoS and HoG(Semi-Presidential System). And i believe we should evolve into a Semi-Presidential Federal Republic.

MessageThe UPU sees no reason to abolish the monarchy at this time. Remember this is a constitutional monarchy, in which the people's representatives continue to govern. It is not a dictatorship, and there seems to be no good reason that we can see to alter this aspect of our country's history and traditions.

MessageWe agree with the UPU. There is no reason to change it, the Sultan has no real power anyways. Elective representatives are the ones that run the country, not the Sultan.

MessageWe feel it needs reforming because of the vast social inequality it promotes. The Sultan, as you have said, doesnt govern and doesnt really do much work but he lives in the lap of luxury in standards practically none of our citizens can afford. Although he has little power, it continues to re-enforce the age-old stereotypes of landed aristocracy ruling the roost. Humanity has moved on, as has Al'Badara! Also, we see little point in clinging onto history for the sake of it. Slavery, racism, intolerance, these are all things that have occured throughout history but the State has broke away from them and tried its best to stop them from occuring. So I fail to see why we should cling on to this outdated, unfair relic from our aristocratic past.

MessageThere is no reason as to why we cant compromise we can become a Semi-Presidential Republic, but Monarch or Presidents are left up to the individual states

MessageSorry United Socialists, i don't understand what you are suggesting.

We would certainly be willing to support a cut to the Sultan's budget. He should be a People's Monarch, living as the people do. But we feel there is value in this tradition, an institution that the peopel can see providing continuity in a time of rapid change.

MessageCompletely agree with UPU. Cut the Sultan's budget if necessary, I'm sure this country can exist and function properly with a monarchy and good social beliefs. As long as our party has enough seats, we will continue to oppose any future similar legislation.

MessageThe problem with keeping the Sultanate as a symbol of continuity is it shows a negative side of continuity. The Sultan shows the history of inequality, aristocracy and autocracy that Al'Badara has experianced. We have several references to our great past, such as the Majelis, the Vizier etc which show the positive sides of Al'Badaran history. Why must we hold onto the negative and outdated concepts?
