From | LibCom Party | To | Debating the Decriminalisation of Prostitution | Message | Certainly no vocational schools. And no pressure on the unemployed to take jobs in the sex industry. They should be covered by employment law though. |

From | Leviathan Party | To | Debating the Decriminalisation of Prostitution | Message | ooc: we should wait until we have economic laws to pass re: welfare etc to vote on this, since i know it would have an effect on how i would vote at the very least. |

From | Free Reform Coalition (FRP) | To | Debating the Decriminalisation of Prostitution | Message | The FRP believes that if prostitution were ever legalized that there should be protections for both the prostitutes and the clients. Government support could help protect them. In any case, the FRP does not support any legalization at this point in time, though we do keep an open mind for any changes. |

From | LibCom Party | To | Debating the Decriminalisation of Prostitution | Message | We've just amended the description of this bill. This way we can crack down on pimps and brothel owners, while treating the workers as victims rather than criminals. |

From | LibCom Party | To | Debating the Decriminalisation of Prostitution | Message | Brothels and street corners are not the only possibilities. In any case, this proposal would allow sex workers to set up collectively-owned premises if they so desire, since they would still be self-employed.
The problem with allowing people to employ prostitutes is that the workers lose a good deal of their freedom - they're required by their employers to serve a certain number of clients per night, for example, and they're less likely to be able to turn away clients they don't wish to serve. |

From | Labour Party | To | Debating the Decriminalisation of Prostitution | Message | I'm still not convinced as this seems open to abuse.
Particulrly as you mention cooperatives but then say it isn't recognised under employment legislation.
ven under the current situation how many prostitutes would offer the name of their pimp to the police? None I would guess, so what will change.
Sorry, but the LP sees this legislation as being ineffective and counter productive.

From | LibCom Party | To | Debating the Decriminalisation of Prostitution | Message | Essentially the only difference to the current situation is that we would no longer treat prostitutes as criminals. That in itself is a step worth making. |

From | LibCom Party | To | Debating the Decriminalisation of Prostitution | Message | As for cooperatives, I only mentioned collectively-owned (or -rented) premises - the prostitutes would still work autonomously. The point was that not allowing brothels wouldn't force prostitutes onto the street. |
