Voting deadline: January 2111

We should stop burdening industry with excessive regulations. Consumers will apply the necessary pressure to companies through the market place to regulate their environmental policies. The government should only set minimum standards and allow industry to improve as it is able in the current financial climate.

MessageI think you are putting excessive faith in the market here, especially since the flow of information to consumers is imperfect and citizens have multiple influences (advertising, prices, etc). Mere "moderate" pollution standards simply aren't good enough in this age when environmental damage is such a grave problem. This is an important question for health reasons and also for the safety of the planet. Please, do not allow the republic's pollution standards to be watered down.

MessageAldegar is renowned for leading the world in demonstrating it is possible to have an efficient industrial sector alongside maintaining excellent environmental standards. Relaxing our targets would be a step backwards. Policy-makers should take into consideration not only what the increase in national pollution will be if we allow this legislation to pass, but the message it would send out to other countries. If we are to continue to take a lead in pressing for better environmental standards globally, we have to continue to set the very best of examples at home.
