From | Lodamun Centre-Left Coalition | To | Debating the Gun Control | Message | With national secuity under threat from possible illegal immigrants buying guns, this bill would severly regulate who has the right to buy firearms. |

From | Chorus of Amyst | To | Debating the Gun Control | Message | As if illegal immigrants would pay attention to gun control laws. This bill will receive no support from the Council. |

From | | To | Debating the Gun Control | Message | The Shylock Party in unconvinced that this will be an effective piece of legislation. Criminals pay no heed to the law already -- why put the burden on law-abiding citizens? |

From | Chorus of Amyst | To | Debating the Gun Control | Message | Even if that is true, it would not make it more difficult by any real degree. Instead, the number of law-abiding citizens with guns will decrease as citizens become fed up with strict licensing laws, thus leaving citizens less protected against criminals. |

From | Cooperative Commonwealth Federation | To | Debating the Gun Control | Message | The libertarian argument seems to rest on the assumption that more guns increases safety. That's at least a debatable proposition: are societies with easy access to gun really safer? The evidence does not seem to back that up. |

From | Chorus of Amyst | To | Debating the Gun Control | Message | Comparing countries that have adopted different gun control stances does not provide good data, as countries themselves often have such varied societal situations that such comparisons become nearly meaningless. On the other hand, comparing a single country to itself - whether through time, or between areas of the same country - shows that violent crime is often reduced during the times when and in the places where gun control is lessened. |

From | | To | Debating the Gun Control | Message | Australia's recent banning of the ownership of a variety of firearms -- and the resulting 300% increase in violent crimes such as home invasions -- seems a particularly relevant point for the Amystian Council's viewpoint, which the Shylock Party concurs with. |

From | | To | Debating the Gun Control | Message | The lisencing of ugns will cause problems that we have seen in countles countries austrailia being one such exmple that the crime rate actually increases when fire arms and weapons are put under such lisencing. |

From | Cooperative Commonwealth Federation | To | Debating the Gun Control | Message | Really? Hate to go out of character and all, but you got a link on that? I've always looked at it by comparing the US and Canada, similar societies with VERY different crimes rates. (And welcome, by the way.) |

From | Cooperative Commonwealth Federation | To | Debating the Gun Control | Message | That web site does not seem to support the NFL's claims. It indicates that there is no evidence one way or the other from Australian cases. It says gun deaths rose and then fell in New South Wales after gun laws took effect, that there was no change in Tasmania, and that gun deaths fell in Queensland. I'd frame the dabte in temrs of: how can we best protect the citizenry's right to freedom from violence? |

From | | To | Debating the Gun Control | Message | At the least, it indicates that this will not help against violent crime in any way, making it a fairly pointless bill, particularly in terms of the suggested reframing of debate. |
