Bill: School Prayer Act (Resumbitted) 2110
Details
Submitted by[?]: Progressive Liberal Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: June 2111
Description[?]:
We are re-submitting this legislation that was proposed in the last session of the Grand Council. We believe the new political dynamic may allow it to pass. This Act proposes that teacher-led prayer be forbidden in schools, expect religious schools. We propose this Act in order to ensure that the religious freedom of students is not infringed by teachers who may utilise the unequal power relationship between students and teachers in order to advance their own religious beliefs. Furthermore, we seek to ensure the secularity of our public school system. We urge those who voted for this legislation previously to support this legislation once more. |

Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy with respect to prayer in schools.
Old value:: The government leaves this decision up to the schools themselves.

Message | We shall support this bill - very strongly - an issue close to our hearts. |
Date | 12:15:16, September 14, 2005 CET | From | Ducal Delegation | To | Debating the School Prayer Act (Resumbitted) 2110 |
Message | The Democratic Alliance will once again oppose this Act if it goes to the vote. Aldegar benefits from having a diverse range of schools, and schools should be allowed a degree of autonomy over matters like these. |
Date | 14:46:55, September 14, 2005 CET | From | Sanctaphrax Party | To | Debating the School Prayer Act (Resumbitted) 2110 |
Message | This decision is for the schools to make. If there is widespread opposition to it from parents, they can get it changed in that school. Not all religious people wish to go to religious schools, that doesn't mean that they can't have ten minutes set aside at the end of the day if they so wish for prayer. We vote no. |

Message | We find the decision of the Sanctaphrax Party puzzling as they supported the same piece of legislation in the previous sitting of the Grand Council, however, we will respect this policy revision. |

Message | The changes of policy by the Sanctaphrax party are often puzzling. We are still trying to work out why they and the Junkers backed the legalisation of prostitution in May 2103, but then voted against it in June 2106 when the parties who had previously supported the move then had a majority in the grand council. We are coming to the conclusion that they have little belief in any principals. Instead they wish to be all things to all people. |

Message | Luckily we care not what the Novy Smer think, and we have indeed had a policy revision upon rethinking of this bill. We do not back the legalisation of prostitution, and the Novy Smer would be amazed that in fact policies change over the course of the years. Shocking news. |
