Bill: Trade Unions Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Novy Smer Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2112
Description[?]:
Workers can only have the representation they deserve in the face of corporate giants if they are members of strong trade unions. A trade union can only be strong if it has many members. Employers currently spend much time abusing the current arrangements by pressuring their employees into not joining a union or leaving one they already belong to. The weakened state of the trade unions means that the covert illegal employment activities of unscrupulous employers goes unreported and unchecked. By making union membership compulsory we will strengthen the unions and empower them to enforce employment legislation. A good employer has nothing to fear from this action, only the bad ones need to quake in their boots!!! |

Message | We STRONGLY condemn this this bill. This is removing the agency of workers to decide whether they'd like to be involved in an inherently political entity like a union. Workers should have the freedom to choose whether or not to be associated with a union. This legislation is is tantamount to forcing people to join a political party and is an attack on the liberty of all citizens. We urge other parties to ensure the liberty of our citizens. |
Date | 08:43:08, September 15, 2005 CET | From | Fenner Brockway Socialist Party | To | Debating the Trade Unions Act |
Message | We agree with the PLP. All workers have the right to join a union, but they also have the right not to join. |
Date | 15:11:40, September 16, 2005 CET | From | Ducal Delegation | To | Debating the Trade Unions Act |
Message | We have to echo the comments above. The Democratic Alliance has always been positive about the role trade unions have to play in our society and our economy, but compulsory membership is simply not acceptable. |

Random fact: Players have a responsibility to differentiate between OOC (out-of-character) and IC (in-character) behaviour, and to make clear when they are communicating in OOC or IC terms. Since Particracy is a role-playing game, IC excesses are generally fine, but OOC attacks are not. However, players must not presume this convention permits them to harass a player with IC remarks that have a clear OOC context. |
