Bill: Regulation of Marriage and Adoption
Details
Submitted by[?]: People's Radical Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 2555
Description[?]:
We are concerned with the present situation, whereby absolutely anybody can marry absolutely anybody (or presumably anything) else. While it is PRP policy that - in the long term - marriage should once again be only between a man and a woman, we are prepared to compromise on this issue at present. Additionally, we feel that children should only be adopted by couples. This is because adoption is a wrenching process for all concerned (including the children themselves later in life), and the adoptee should be guaranteed a stable family life, particularly if he or she is being removed from precisely the opposite. |

Message | Single people should be allowed the right to adoption. Would you take a child away if there were only one parent? If they pass the test of being able to care for the child, why restrict them? |
Date | 16:19:03, April 02, 2008 CET | From | Republican Coalition | To | Debating the Regulation of Marriage and Adoption |
Message | Pass what test? It's quite simple, single parent families are not as effective as two-parent families, so we should do our best to make sure as many adoptions as possible go to families, instead of individuals. |

Message | Where is the proof of single parent families are not as effective? I see no statistical data to back that claim up whatsoever. |

Message | The test the GUBA Party refers to is perhaps the screening process designed to make certain that those with a history of child abuse can't adopt. We are not arguing that single-parent families aren't "as effective", but rather that it is surely a better result for the adoptee if they are adopted by a couple and thus have a greater level of familial stability. |

Random fact: Cabinet ministers who disagree seriously with the head of government would usually be expected to resign. Parties within the cabinet may attempt to manoeuvre to replace the head of government though, for example by proposing a new cabinet bill or voting for an early election. |
