Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The lyrics of the national anthem.
Old value:: Probably none
Current:
O, Lodamun Rejoice, brothers and sisters Children of our glorious land May we restrain our resistors Their resistance we disband No foe I fear, no friend I force We propagate wholeheartedly No single feeling of Remorse affects our fraternity All the weapons of this earth Could not temper our pride Lodamun, for what it's worth Your sacred grounds we abide O, Republic that is ours Our lives are in your hands We shall maintain with all our powers Your glory, with proud stance. |
Proposed:
Say, Hey! Hear the sound of the falling rain Coming down like an Armageddon flame (Hey!) The shame The ones who died without a name Hear the dogs howling out of key To a hymn called "Faith and Misery" (Hey!) And bleed, the company lost the war today I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies This is the dawning of the rest of our lives On holiday Hear the drum pounding out of time Another protestor has crossed the line (Hey!) To find, the money's on the other side Can I get another Amen? (Amen!) There's a flag wrapped around a score of men (Hey!) A gag, a plastic bag on a monument I beg to dream and differ from the hollow lies This is the dawning of the rest of our lives On holiday |

Message | Bah, Green Day gets a thumbs down. *L* |

Message | :( I'll find something else... But seriously, Green Day's the best, especially the "American Idiot" album. |

Message | Is there anything you object to about this song? I think the lyrics are rather nice, better suited for an anthem than "Jesus of Suburbia", one of my favorites... |

Message | You like American Idiot TIC? I think our tiny number of votes will be cast against any rock songs. Just don't like the idea of a rock song as an anthem. The Fair Hills was nicer, frankly. |

Message | We refuse to vote for an anthem by Green Day. Sure, they may have been good at one point in time (I spent a lot of my pre-teen and early teen years listening to them), but their new stuff is so meh. |

Message | "You like American Idiot TIC?" Some of the best music Ive ever heard...I used to hate the song "American Idiot", though I liked other parts of the CD. Once they quit over playing it on the radio, I started to like it. "I think our tiny number of votes will be cast against any rock songs. Just don't like the idea of a rock song as an anthem. The Fair Hills was nicer, frankly." Can we get the Fair Hills voted into anthem status? I want an anthem, the Fair Hills is just as good as any. I like the lyrics to "Holiday," as well though. They seem appropriate to the atmosphere of Lodamun(rather liberal). Note that this only affects the words, we can alter the tune so that it isnt rock. Is there any objections to specific lyrics? I'll find other lyrics to other songs, and post them to the debate here. Hopefully something can be found that people can agree to. |

Message | ((OOC: Well I generally prefer classical music (especially film scores) although I do like the odd bit of classic rock (like Queen for example)). Unfortunately, I think some parties in Lodamun will vote no just to the concept of a national anthem, even if that national anthem is not nationalistic. The Fair Hills, for example, is hardly a nationalist marching tune but still they vote against. |

Message | Hm... Ill look for a decent queen song... Perhaps I can combine various parts of different songs into a separate, new song, with an independent, unspecified tune? |

Message | What about this song?: So am I still waiting For this world to stop hating Can’t find a good reason Can’t find hope to believe in Drop dead a bullet to my head Your words are like a gun in hand You can’t change the state of the nation We just need some motivation Three times I see no conviction Just lies and more contradiction So tell me what would you say I’d say it’s time (to listen) So am I still waiting For this world to stop hating Can’t find a good reason Can’t find hope to believe in Ignorance and understanding We’re the first ones to jump in line Out of step for what we believe in But whos left? to start the pleading How far will we take this It’s not hard to see through the sickness So tell me what would you say I’d say it’s time (to listen) So am I still waiting For this world to stop hating Can’t find a good reason Can’t find hope to believe in This can’t last forever Time won’t make things better I feel so alone Can’t help myself And no one knows If this is worthless Tell me: so What have we done We’re in a war that can’t be won This can’t be real I don’t know what to feel So am I still waiting For this world to stop hating Can’t find a good reason Can’t find hope to believe in So am I still waiting For this world to stop hating Can’t find a good reason Can’t find hope to believe in |

Message | Some other songs seem suitable to me for use as an anthem, here are a few that come to mind. Other suggestions: Wake up(Three Days Grace) Head Like a Hole or Hand That Feeds(Nine Inch Nails) Keep 'Em Separated or Self Esteem(Offspring) Wonderwall(Oasis) Smooth Criminal(Alien Ant Farm) Eleanor Rigby(Beatles) Float On(Modest Mouse) |

Message | I am opposed to national anthems in principle. The lyrics won't change my mind. However, I do like the mutinous, anti-war sentiment of Holiday. |

Message | That's one reason I picked it ;-) Green day is very liberal, very anti war. Hardly material for an anthem, except in Lodamun, that is... Segments of "Jesus of Suburbia" come to mind, as well as "Homecoming", but both are 9 minutes long and would have to be reduced. Is DSP the only one opposed to all anthems? For those that aren't, give me an idea what music you like and I'll try to pick a suitable song, or else put a mix together. |

Message | We're opposed to the concept of an anthem as well. |

Message | Hm... |
Date | 03:46:43, September 18, 2005 CET | From | Lodamun Centre-Left Coalition | To | Debating the National Anthem, why not? |
Message | The PCL will only support an anthem which brings out Lodamun's diversity. |
Date | 05:50:58, September 18, 2005 CET | From | Tuesday Is Coming | To | Debating the National Anthem, why not? |
Message | Can you clarify what you mean by that? |
Date | 19:51:57, September 23, 2005 CET | From | CNT/AFL | To | Debating the National Anthem, why not? |
Message | "Lodamun, we've got some natives we oppress, hey, lodamun, we've got some foreigners to impress." |
Date | 07:52:02, October 04, 2005 CET | From | Tuesday Is Coming | To | Debating the National Anthem, why not? |
Message | Due to the unyielding nature of certain parties, we find it likely that our nation will never have an anthem. Put to a vote because this bill has been debated for quite long enough. |

Random fact: "OOC", "IC" and "IG" are commonly-used acronyms in Particracy. "OOC" refers to comments, discussions and actions which are out-of-character, meaning they are done player-to-player rather than party-to-party. "IC" refers to in-character interactions (ie. party-to-party). Similarly, "IG" means in-game, although this term may also simply refer to what happens in the actual game interface, as opposed to on the forum or elsewhere. "RP" just means "role-play". |
