Bill: Basic Census Information

Details

Submitted by[?]: 帝国公明党 (Teikoku Kōmeitō)

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: May 2575

Description[?]:

This bill is completely OOC.
Ok, so it's obvious we don't all agree on certain areas of census data, however there is some stuff I think we do need to have decided on, namely ethnicity and Religion.

As it stands Sekowo has been comprised of three main cultures, Greco-Roman, Nordic and Japanese and several minor cultures, French, Normand, Native American and Native Central American.
Now if you include our territories we also have a kind of peaceful lion worshiping African group and Welsh as well.

MessageWe are opposed to the general (and generally accepted) idea that the Sekowan peoples can be defined in such distinct groups, with only one small "mixed" group. If the Japanese and Caucasians were to make up such a large parts of the population and to have lived together for at least a couple hundred years, there would be a great deal more mixing and integration. Clearly, the division cannot be geographical, or the nation would have torn itself apart as racially distinct peoples vied for power, or, at the very least, there would be a great deal more of political focus on race and ethnicity. One would be hard pressed to find a place where such physiologically and culturally different peoples live in peace for hundreds of years and without bringing up political issues. Sure, we could rewrite history and retroactively apply racial tensions, but the AUP does not want the history of this nation to be defined by ethnic tensions and violence.

MessagePeople who have mixed ancestry but have a majority of one ancestry are classed in whatever ethnicity they are closest to.
Mixed refers to someone who has multiple generations of different ethnic heritage.

It's not that hard to imagine, I mean look at America, we've had various different ethnicities for centuries and the amount of people who are Mixed ethnicity is not that high, while the primary ethnicities have'nt shrank that much.

MessageThis needs to be democratic. The census results should stand.

MessageThe US white population is actually a mix of many different European ethnicities (German, Scottish, English, Irish, Italian, Spanish, Polish, etc.). The heterogeneous white group makes up something like 80% of the population. The relatively small black population (12.4%) has mixed extensively with the white population. However, the races are not completely mixed due to the highly political and historically important factors of racism and racial segregation. If something like that had occurred in Sekowo, then the lack of mixing would make sense, but not only is Sekowo made of many races, none of which constitute so vast a majority as "whites" do in America, but there have been no major problems with racial discrimination and segregation to prevent mixing.

MessageEven still not everyone is keen on being in a relationship with someone one of a different ethnicity.

It's unrealistic to think that everyone pays no attention to ethnicity.

Messageit's been nearly 400 years since the founding of Sekowo. That's a long time for a piddly 10% multiracial.
Ethnic tensions have rarely, if ever, played a role in our national politics. That does not reflect a racist society.

But I guess that, in a very unlikely and unrealistic word, it could happen.

MessageAUP is right. 10% would be too low over 400 years of multiculturalism.

MessageWe have'nt been multicultural for that long.

We have had the current multicultural society for the last 123 years.
Now also take into account the fact that the majority of each ethnicity lives in specific areas, IE the Japanese in the South-East, the Greco-Roman's in the North-West and North, the Nordic in the North-East, the Miztec in the South and the Kli'kut (Buddhist & Agnostic Native Americans) live primarily outside of Sekowo proper.
