Bill: Bring Democracy to Hutori, Allow these elections!
Details
Submitted by[?]: Democratic Socialist Union
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill requests an early election. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline. Elections will be held immediately if the bill passes.
Voting deadline: July 2571
Description[?]:
"I have no doubt that this bill shall be rejected by the so-called "government", which just confirms what we all have suspected for a long time. Those who have power, are afraid of losing it, and the prime example of this is the HCC. We started this fight because we love the Republic, because we love democracy, because we don't want to see a decadent hereditary monarch leading our nation. But the conservatives have turned this into a fight for our very survival, a fight against those who would murder us if we should lose. They are to afraid of losing that they're even undermining the democratic process of their own government by not allowing early elections. Beware he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart, he dreams himself your master." Party Chairwoman Jane Lahaut |

Message | This nation has effectively become a dictatorship, with the HCC holding more than half of the chairs in an undemocratic fashion. Let us organise elections, if the HCC after that still dominates the elections we shall not oppose the results. |
Date | 01:37:33, May 04, 2008 CET | From | Hutori Conservative Council | To | Debating the Bring Democracy to Hutori, Allow these elections! |
Message | There is nothing 'undemocratic' about this. In a democracy, if we hold the majority, we have the right to vote down your motions. And besides, it is laughable that the PRCP would suggest that they want to defend democracy, which they apparently hold so dear, when they have been involved in the biggest possible onslaught on democracy in the communist uprising. We are the legitimate government. The people of Hutori have voted for us. Holding an election a few months after the last is not going to change anything, and so we are extremely sceptical of the communist's motives. We vote this down, not because of some bizarre conspiracy that we are a power-hungry dictatorship, but indeed, because this IS democracy, and we can block legislations if we have the majority, which we do. The PRCP wants, through this legislation, to attempt to gain more seats for their coalition, and hopes that our support will diminish marginally now that the LCAP has disbanded. Therefore this legislation is not in our interests at all - why would we vote for it? This is a democracy. It's not always fair. But it is entirely democratic for us to block this legislation. |
