Bill: Strike Against Imperialism
Details
Submitted by[?]: Sekowan Communist Party
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill is a resolution. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2576
Description[?]:
Members of the Sekowan Communist Party and its affiliated unions have declared a strike this week in response to the support gathered by the newly named Imperial Socialist Party to rename the Federal Commonwealth of Sekowo to the "Imperial Commonwealth of Sekowo". The head of the SCP repudiated any former ties with the ISP and requested a meeting of Party Union leaders. A vote was called and a massive plurality agreed to a country-wide industrial strike. Between the party's Union of the Sekowan Proletariat and those associated unions with strong ties, there shall be some 11 million workers on strike come August. Large repercussions for the Sekowan economy are expected, with productivity in some sectors dropping perhaps 35%. UPDATE: Having (fortunately) misjudged the political climate in Sekowo, the strike has been called off. Putting this to vote for archival purposes, yes/no doesn't matter. |

Message | Striking is perhaps not the best way to oppose a single party? |

Message | It's hardly a single party. The USMC has joined with the ISP and the SCP expects the same from the AUP and Conservative party. The hand that feeds us? The left has been sundered for years. |

Message | We expect the Conservatives to oppose, as we have greater faith in them than to side with the Socialists on this issue. |

Message | Even if the Conservatives oppose it is likely to pass nonetheless. However, we in the event that the bill does not pass the strike will be called off. |

Message | This is an unreasonable reason to strike. "Employers can fire workers who are deemed to have gone on strike without reasonable reasons." according to our law. I think all those people on no-income will be glad to hear that jobs will have opened up for them. |

Message | It's hardly unreasonable for workers to express their discontent with the elected legislature via a strike. At any rate, we misjudged the support in Sekowo for the bill in question and have called off the strike. |

Message | Since this whole littel event is over, this is sort of useless and is taking up space, put it to vote for archiving. |

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, special care must be taken to ensure realism is maintained when role-playing a government controlled by an ethnic and/or religious minority. If it is to be supposed that this government is supported by a majority of the population, then this should be plausibly and sufficiently role-played. The burden of proof is on the player or players role-playing such a regime to demonstrate that it is being done realistically |
