Message | We have offered this bill in response to the overwhelming public opposition to the current policy. |
Date | 15:31:49, May 05, 2008 CET | From | Vanuku Sinatranoan Party | To | Debating the Food Labeling Act 2572 |
Message | Excellent. A perfectly valid reason. Unless genetically modified food is actually not that good for you, as some believe... Why deny people the freedom of choice? Consumers who believe GM foods are harmless - indeed, beneficial - will purchase regardless. Consumers who are not convinced of GM food's benefits have the choice to select a different product through informed choice. Apart from the producer's right to conceal the origins of their product, precisely how does this advance Vanuku as an informed, democratic, and free society? |

Message | It is hard to imagine 72% of Vanukans agreeing on any one political issue, but nevertheless, that is one case where they do - barely 28% of the public believes the government should require that GM food to be labeled as such. If the Sinatranoan Party is interested in "advancing" Vanuku as a "democratic society", we would suggest that the simplest way to do that is to respect the will of the overwhelming majority of Vanukans and pass this bill. |
Date | 11:05:03, May 07, 2008 CET | From | Vanuku Sinatranoan Party | To | Debating the Food Labeling Act 2572 |
Message | After a vote of conscience within the Vanuku Sinatranoan Party, an overwhelming majority decided that GM foods pose no threat to humans, and such a change in law will mean little to the health of the citizens we represent. To this end, we support this legislation. |

Random fact: In order for a Cabinet bill to pass, more than half of the legislature must vote for it and all of the parties included in the proposed Cabinet must support it. If your nation has a Head of State who is also the Head of Government, then the party controlling this character must also vote for the bill, since the Head of Government is also a member of the Cabinet. If any of these requirements are not met, the bill will not pass. |
