Message | "a) You will raise a nation of incompetents with this bill. b) You will create a nation of people that have no social skills." -Judy Gottlos, Head Archon of the ARM |
Date | 22:23:56, May 11, 2008 CET | From | Jewish Mothers' Union | To | Debating the Home Education Act |
Message | Parents who choose to home educate their children will be closely monitored to ensure their children are given a satisfactory education and a satisfactory opportunity to develop as social beings and citizens. Ms. Gottos does a great disservice to Beitenyuenese parents by assuming they are all incompetent to do these things. Melanie Koffenbaum (Minister of Foreign Affairs & Leader of the JMU) |

Message | "Parents could be greatly educated and great teachers. But this does not change the fact that there is much more to learn in life, and much more important things, than pure knowledge. And even if you attempt to run "social outreach programs" to homeschooled children, the fact remains that the children that spend about six hours per day around their peers, plus another four hours of extracurricular activities around their peers each day, are going to have a substantial advantage over the homeschooled children that spend about three or four hours per day around other homeschooled children who are just as isolated and lacking in social skills. Furthermore, knowledge itself is not important. What is important about knowledge is the connections that can be made in the human mind between such knowledge and how it can be applied. Without constant intellectual stimulation by your peers, your brain will adapt to a state in which it only functions to remember - not to think creatively." -Judy Gottlos, Head Archon of the ARM |

Random fact: When it comes to creating a Cultural Protocol in a Culturally Open nation, players are not necessarily required to provide a plausible backstory for how the nation's cultural background developed. However, the provision of a plausible backstory may be a factor in whether Moderation approves the Cultural Protocol if players in surrounding nations question its appropriateness for their region of the game map. |
Random quote: "If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual [gay] sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything!" - Rick Santorum |
