Message | Why can mayors not be elected directly? |
Date | 04:29:42, May 12, 2008 CET | From | Judicial Union Party | To | Debating the Mayor Act |
Message | There is no reason not to allow local governments to decide this. If they wish to have elections, or for the mayors to be appointed, well that should be their call. |

Message | We could live with a compromise, but the main objective is to reach a common standard.. nowadays every little town does whatever they like, and when they don't agree it ends in a big brawl, then it's up to the judges have to decide,.. and we believe it's simply waaay easier if all communities conform to the same election procedure, with the same rules and regulations. |

Message | It stands to reason that the people who are subject to the power of the mayor should decide how the mayor is chosen. It doesn't affect national government, so national government should stay out of it. And if in the end the courts have to adjudicate, well that's what they're there for - to balance competing interests. |

Message | For the sake of simplicity and uniformity in government; so all cases will be tried the same in the entire country. It makes no sense whatsoever to let town A decide who's gonne be their mayor in a direct election, while town B 10 miles up the road has their mayor appointed by the regional government, while a third town C has the mayoral candidates duel for control of the town... so to speak. |
