Bill: Decent Old Age Regulation Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Rutanian Democratic Forum
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: July 2577
Description[?]:
This law regulates that every citizen of this country must invest in some sort of pension system. This not only helps them, when they come to pension, it also helps the state, because government will not have to pay care for so many people who didn't save for their pension. Some people are irresponsible, some people just don't care, some people have bad luck- but the state shouldn't care for that. A pension plan must exist, it helps all parties involved. |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The government's policy concerning the pension system.
Old value:: The state does not operate a pension system. Individuals must save up for retirement on their own.
Current: The state operates a compulsory public system combined with an optional private pension.
Proposed: The state offers a voluntary public pension, combined with other voluntary private pensions.

Message | We always supported voluntary pension systems... |

Message | Both systems are voluntary, one just saves the people money and can almost certainly provide better returns on their superannuation - the public one would be a waste of taxpayer money especially since we have a competitive superannuation market already. |

Message | RDF can change this bill proposal into "There is a compulsory private pension system", if agreed by the parties. We just don't want to watch our seniors broke or without funds for decent living. |

Message | Well, I suppose that we could support it, but we think the current system is probably the best - we want to encourage fiscal responsibility of the people, not force it on them. |

Message | We like the proposed idea because it gives our people a choice: Voluntary public pension, voluntary private pension, or if you dont want neither you can save for retirement yourself. All of them have a measure of responsibility in them... |

Message | sometimes is very hard to make people fiscally responsible, especially when they are non- educated people :) |
Date | 18:56:44, May 16, 2008 CET | From | Labour Party | To | Debating the Decent Old Age Regulation Act |
Message | The state should provide pensions to all, regardless of whether they saved. The fact is that without the workers there would not exist an economy in the first place. Since it is the workers that are responsible for the economic wealth of the nation they deserve a pension without any qualifications or exclusions. |

Message | RDF agrees with Labour Party. But for now, we just don't have enough political support to pass such a law. |

Message | Ok, if that is the case, we can support this bill, on condition that it will serve as a platform for better pension rights and not as an end in itself. |
