Bill: Justice Reform Bill!

Details

Submitted by[?]: Telamon National Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2578

Description[?]:

We feel that certain people do not deserve the right to life, and that they will never be safe to put back into the wider community again. Technology now used in investigations is reliable and any miscarriage of justice in such cases will be non-existant.

Also it costs the tax payer to keep prisoners locked up, instead they should work for their keep so those who have suffered due to their crimes do not have to pay for their life in prison.

MessageThis seems to make sense. The prisoners can work to help pay for the cost of their incarceration. We approve.

MessageWhy not? Scared of a bit of justice? Do your parties have something to worry about if these laws are passed?

MessageWe're giving a reluctant no vote; we would vote for the death penalty if that was brought up as a separate issue however.

MessageIt is a myth that capital punishment is a cheaper alternative; it actually costs more to execute (with legal fees, additional investigations and longer court trials) than to keep prisoners alive for life.
Life should never be sacrificed in the name of economics.
