Message | Although we oppose free market by definition, we do not wish the government to engage in something as warmongering as creating weapons. |

Message | Defence and justice are two of the very, very few areas we actually see it necessary for state-ownership. The military has to be acting on behalf of the country - if they are funded by the state, there's a sense that they are fighting for the entire country. If they are private, they are fighting for profit and may see absolutely no obligation to their country, beyond earning money. And besides, where would these private militia recieve their funding? Not many people would voluntarily donate to something if they didn't have to. What would happen is that we would eventially not even have a military at all - private militias would fail and disintegrate due to lack of funding, and if another country waged war on us we would be completely and utterly unprepared. |

Message | If, of course, the HLP were to propose legislation whereby private militia would work alongside a national military, we may be able to support this. But considering this legislation will probably pass as it is, (OOC: Where the HELL are you DNP???), we will have to decline. |

Message | OOC actually it is set to fail 118 to 122 as it is. Nice about-turn everyone is making on this issue tho! IC: We're not talking about the military but about industry, private businesses that happen to produce weapons. If they were run privately, rather than by the state, they might be far more efficient. The government could procure weapons at a competitive price, saving money. |
