Message | Well, back off a second. This is only a "relaxation" of citizenship requirements depending on the nature of the qualifying exam. You could make it an exam that requires a knowledge of advanced calculus, for example, in which case very few current Alorians would qualify. Citizenship by birth (nationality) was a hard-fought right. Granting/taking away of rights by exam is a traditional mask advanced by racial discriminators and elitists. Do NOT be fooled by the marketing here. Calling this a "relaxation" of citizenship requirements is nonsense without context. |

Message | We already have a very liberal immigration policy, which permits anyone--anyone at all--to reside permanently in Aloria without any restrictions at all. The purported reason for this law therefore doesn't hold water. Educated foreign workers can already get to Aloria if they want. This is a pretext to deny citizenship rights to Alorians. |

Message | Wait, theres some confusion here. Who is a national? Is a national someone who has resideance here or is merely a naturalized citizen? My understanding was that a national is someone native to Aloria (in the sense that their parents were Alorian citizens) and that this bill would allow non-nationasl to take a qualifying exam and become a citizen, thus lossening citizenship restrictions. |

Message | that's correct. however, this is the same system as used in US right now. the current alorian system is what they have in Switzerland (sanguinus) - only a child of at least one parent that is a national of Switzreland will gain citizenship. if they are born in switzerland, but don't have parents nationals, they won't receive citizenship. no exam exists to gain citizenship later on. so, basicallly: either you are born of or you are not a citizen. |

Message | Democratic Rationalists (PrCoa): I cant explicitly specify what kind of exam is required in the bill, if you support. |

Message | In the US right now, citizenship is obtained as a right to all born in the country. It is granted to immigrants on passage of a qualifying exam. |

Message | You can't allow to grant citizenship to everyone who's coming to Aloria! By just granting them an Alorian citizenship, they have nothing to do for it? Don't learn the language? Don't learn about our nations morality and values? We support this bill, because nationals must first run some kind of exam, and if they pass they are granted citizenship. One of the important things of that exam must be that immigrants learn our language. |

Message | Don't change the subject. The game doesn't parse between citizenship granted to immigrants versus citizenship granted to natives. It's all or none. We'll take citizenship by birth with a liberal immigration policy--which is what Aloria has now. |
Date | 02:50:39, May 28, 2008 CET | From | Alorian Public Union | To | Debating the Relaxation of citizenship requirements |
Message | Again, I vote yes cause to my understanding, a "national" is someone born in Aloria or born to other nationals. |
