Bill: Income tax proposal of August 2582
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberale Partij (L)
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This bill proposes to change income taxes. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.
Voting deadline: May 2583
Description[?]:
The Hutori Liberal Party propose to adjust the government's income tax policy to better address the economic situation of the Most Royal and Serene Kingdom of Hutori. ADVANTAGES: -This income tax proposal is expected to increase revenue for the government, paying for a significant chunk of the recently approved spending increase. -In this new income tax system, a citizen need not pay taxes on any source of income below the Hutori average: the value of the lowest bracket is similar to the GDP per capita. -The system is simple, and comes close to the flat tax desired by the conservatives whilst still being (with regards to income redistribution) progressive. -The top rate has been lowered from 33%, down from 55% |

Message | We are finding it difficult to fault this income proposal. It's certainly an improvement on the current system. We can certainly support it - in many ways it is already a flat-tax, as 33% covers 44, 758 HLR and above, and that's a fairly low income, relatively speaking. Certainly, the vast majority of earners would be well and truly above that level. We are still somewhat concerned that the tax rate is 33% for that bracket, though. We understand that this is necessary for the time being to ensure a balanced budget, but in future we would like to try and lower that even further, in any way possible. For now, this has our support, and we commend the HLP for a very well thought out income tax. |
