Minister of Justice, Ma Thida: "After reviewing the current laws regarding the justice system of Malivia we believe that we may have acted too hastily when voting on the Communist Purge bill. Though we still agree that some changes need to be made, we cannot take away the basic rights of our citizens, and as such changes must once again be made. As the Minister of Justice, I present the following articles to amend the laws of the Gerajan Protectorates of Malivia." |
Proposals
Article 1
Proposal[?] to change The right to appeal against a judgement rendered by a court.
Old value:: All judgements are final and binding; appealing against them is not possible.
Current: Every person has the right to appeal against a judgement and to have it reviewed by a higher court.
Proposed: Every person has the right to appeal to the Minister of Justice to have a judgement reviewed by another court.
Article 2
Proposal[?] to change Government policy with respect to the death penalty.
Old value:: The death penalty is applied to most minor and all major criminal offences.
Current: The death penalty is not applied, except for terrorism, treason and crimes against mankind.
Proposed: The death penalty is applied for capital crimes.
Article 3
Proposal[?] to change The government's position towards the use of forensic DNA databases.
Old value:: No DNA is recorded.
Current: DNA from persons accused or convicted for a crime is recorded.
Proposed: All citizens' DNA is recorded.
