MessageI have doubts about the richest country in the world part considering the economic policies currently in effect, but I do think we shouldnt just let everyone in, and especially criminal immigrants should get deported immidiatly

MessageSince our currency is the first one in the world, yes, we are the richest country no matter what the economic policies are. Even though we can debate this for a long time, I won't.

Messagecurrency is not used to determine the richest countries, GDP is used. And that is effected by our economic policy.

MessageCurrency is determined by our GDP, after all GDP is money or what the goods are worth in money. If your currency is the strongest, your economy is the strongest. So yes, our country is the richest in the world and that is thanks to the current economic policy.

MessageNo currency is not affiliated with GDP. Currency, especially in a floating currency system, is determined by international currency exchange, not national GDP. GDP is ta measure of capital stock + government spending + net export + gross investment, currency has nothing to do with this. Also a strong currency can hurt our economy because then prices are higher and especially export takes a hit from this

MessageTell me something: how does government does what it does? They use money. I said GDP is the value in money, not actual money. The point is: we have a strong economy thanks to the current policies, whether you like them or not.

MessageI am saying our GDP does not affect the currency in the way you described. A strong economy and a strong currency doesnt follow hand in hand. Therfore you cant use currency to determine if we are the richest nation or not. And a strong currency is not too good for the economy, so if the minster of Finance could weaken our currency a bit we would probarbly see even more economic growth

OOC: Look to China and the US for example. The US are the biggest economy today, and the third richest nation in the world (1st if you measure per citizen) and the Chinese economy is expected to take the throne in a few years, and none of them have strong currencies (The dollar has really been low latly, and a CNY, the chinese monetary unit is weaker then the dollar with 1CNY=0.15$)

MessageThe GDP affects the currency. If the GDP goes down, the currency value goes down (look at the U.S. dollar now and the Euro). A strong currency goes along with a strong economy, in fact, having a strong currency is a good sign of a strong economy (again, look at the U.S. dollar). How can you ask the Minister of Finance to weaken our currency, you have definately lost it there.

We are not measuring GDP per capita, even though I can give you all the GDP per capita of all nations and its conversions to LOD but that takes too long. The U.S. economy is still strong because it has been strong for the last 100 years, it takes a long time to weaken it but if things keep going like they are now (the U.S. dollar losing value), we'll be in serious problems. The Chinese economy is never going to be like the U.S's economy. Their economy is strong now because of the overproduction they have. You can also look at the U.S in th 90s when the U.S. dollar was at an all time high and the economy was booming.

In summary, strong economy goes along with strong currency.

MessageA strong currency hurts our exports, and may be one of the reason we have a negative net export. And the chinese economy will surpass the US economy soon, ask any economist, and one of several reasons are a artificilly low currency. Its not overproduction alone who creates the economic growth (overproduction is usally negative). The pound is probarbly the strongest currency in the real world (cant think of any stronger) And the british are not a economic superpower, which according to you they should be (strongest currency strongest economy).
And the U.S also propspered greatly under Reagan, and at that time the dollar was weak.

MessageYou do realize the Euro is not from Greta Britain only, right? It is from the EU (European Union). This is what is going to happen with the Chinese:

1- Overproduction will increase. (Overproduction is good to a certain point)
2- Prices will fall.
3- People lose their jobs.
4- The economy goes up in flames.

Our economy is much different from theirs.

Please don't mention Reagnomics, it is a worthless battle, especially when the deficit and the national debt increased by about 10 times of what it was before Reagan took over. And the 80s was not a good time in our history. The only reason our economy stayed afloat was because of teh Cold War and the military-industrial complex.

Oh, the pound is not used anymore, still exists though. Britain uses the Euro now.

If you give me time, I will calculate all the GDPs per capita and convert them to LOD and make a comparison. It is going to take time though.

MessageAPL, yu are right, only South Britain uses the Euro with more frequency. The pound is still the official currency. Tendency now is to go with the Euro because it is used by many European countries even though they are going to have a tough time changing to it (if they ever do).

The Euro is clearly the strongest currency at the moment (1 euro=1.55 U.S. Dollars).
