The government subsidizes tuition only for students from families classified as low-income or poor.

MessageNo to all articles.
1. Charter schools are publicly funded private institutions. We will not allow government money to be spent on private institutions for profit. The current law stipulates that the organisation operating the Charter School must be non-profit. This guarantees that the money spent by the government is spent on education and operation of that school, not on making money for the people who operate/own the school.

2. Paying for the complete tuition of all students is a laudable goal, however it is cost prohibitive. The current system allows for the full cost of tuition to be met by the government for students on low incomes, reducing as ability to pay increases, and, assuming the student then reaches a minimum annual income level, they begin to repay that subsidy back to the government in order for that money to be put back into the system. This allows for any student who wishes to go to university to go with all, or at least a percentage, of their education paid for by the state whilst allowing that investment to be returned and reused in order to reduce government expenditure.

3. We will not pay government money to fund private institutions when the public sector can provide the same quality of service to the public without the requirement for a profit motive. There is no evidence supporting private education being any better than public education and, more crucially, the public sector provides more cost effective educational standards than those provided by the private sector. The inherent requirement for the private sector to make a profit will increase costs to parents of the more wealthy and increase costs to the government as those private schools will be able to utilise the voucher system as a "cash cow" in order to maximise profits at the risk of the government and the citizens of this nation.

MessageThis is a comprehensive reform package, and we can not support part of it without the rest.

MessageSince our comprehensive reform package will not pass yet, we have removed Article 2 (so its supporters won't have to vote against it) and will put this forward as a platform for now.
