Bill: Strategic Defense Industry Act.
Details
Submitted by[?]: Liberal-Progressive Union
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: January 2116
Description[?]:
This bill allows the Defense industry to continue operating as a government industry but is not limited to, or hampered by government only production. This bill allows for private industries to operate along government industry. We believe that by allowing private industry, more production and better technological advances will result as these private industries are competing for government contracts. This will also save the government money as the burden of research, testing, employee payroll, and the massive funding required to operate a government owned industry will be cut down as private companies begin operation. The state will remain the main owner of the defence industry. They will lead in the development, research, and the improving of existing armaments. These include but not limited to, armour, jet aircraft, small arms, naval vessels, missle technology, artillery, and the development of long range bombers. The private industries will work with the various government industries in the all aspects of arms production. If, for whatever reason, a government industry is unable to continue as a operational industry, then the private industry will maintain production. Information will be shared between the various industries so resumption of production will not cease for whatever reason. |

Message | We need some private industry to assist in our defence production. It will ease the governments strained resources and finances and also provide high paying jobs to skilled workers. |
Date | 15:43:19, September 22, 2005 CET | From | United Socialist Movement | To | Debating the Strategic Defense Industry Act. |
Message | Again, we will offer our resounding 'no vote'. It is detrimental for the government to exist alongside these companies, seeing as they won't be able to compete in our opinion, and again we think it's immoral for private profiteers to make revenue from weapons that are used to kill. |

Message | If the government has strained resources, why are the L-PU in faovur of establishing a navy, bearing in mind since the start of Hobrazian politics there has not been any need for one, and is also unnecessary due to our many allies and good international relations? |

Message | But it is ok for the government to make a profit from weapons that kill? Private companies are performing the same task as government industry, and why wouldn't they be able to compete? Private industry usually pay higher wages, and attract higher educated workers, and since a profit is their motivation, they will compete and perform better than government industry. |

Message | Becaues once war begins is implemented, we need a plan. A military is needed. Every nation is going to have one. At least I am trying to help our nation and propose ideas instead of doing nothing to contribute to what is going to be a very important aspect of the game. I am trying to set up treaties to avoid war while you complain about the military aspect and add no input except negativity. |

Message | We may support this bill but would have prefered if it hadn't been launched straight after the L-PU's failed bill to fully privatise the defence industries. |

Message | We will support this bill, though would recommend waiting until after the election before sending it to vote in order to protect our consistency. This is the original position that was introduced by the WSS!P before it was removed by other parties at a later date, and we continue to press the positions made by ourselves during the introduction of that bill, and would request that at least some of those ideas be included in the descriptor above. http://82.238.75.178:8085/particracy/main/viewbill.php?billid=15970 |

Message | Agreed. I'll hold off until after election and add some of the original provisons included in the first bill. |

Message | "But it is ok for the government to make a profit from weapons that kill?" Private profit goes to the CEOs fancy cars and champagne. Profit (although regrettable, but necessary to arm the military), goes back to the people. I only add negativity L0-PU because I see some of your proposals as being morally wrong and an infringement on people's rights. I would just like to add to the debate that many parties voted in favour of my proposal for nationalisation, and it is a 'protected industry'. There is the clear choice - allowing private profit on weapons for killing, or not. That's what you're voting for here. |
