Message | Absolutely not. We oppose every article in this legislation, and we will explain why: First of all, in a very broad sense, these articles are all destructive to our national autonomy and sovereignity, as well as infringing on the sovereignity and self-reliance of other countries in the case of Article 2. More specifically, we oppose Article 2 because we believe that Trigunia should take care of its own affairs, and its own domestic issues, well and truly before any aid is given to other countries. To put it a very simple way, our country should mind its own business, and every other country should mind their own business too. It is not our responsibility to look after the problems of other countries, especially when we have our own domestic issues to be taken care of which may well require funding. Trigunia must always come first. As for Article 3, we are against free trade for several reasons. First of all, we believe that free trade builds up an inter-dependance between countries on one another for subsistence, and this is destructive to sovereignity and undermines our self-reliance. We do not want to be at the complete disposal of other countries who we allow free and open access to our resources in open trade. Secondly, we believe that our job-markets and our domestic industries and businesses may often need protection from predator multi-national companies. Quite simply, our domestic industries may not be able to compete with those in other countries, and may soon be void of any importance, and will inevitably close down or be driven to failure. Allowing for tarrifs on imports gives our domestic industries the protection they need from unfair foreign competition, and allows them to thrive. We believe that we need to do what is best for Trigunia first, before any pursuit of any abstract, idealistic economic theories of free trade. |
