Bill: Labor Union Freedom Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Liberal Party of Hobrazia

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: June 2589

Description[?]:

Because liberty must be the birthright of the CEO and the worker. It would be wrong to believe in the free market only as long as it helps corporate interests. We must also entrust liberty to the workers, and have faith that they will exercise this liberty responsibly.

MessageWe do not agree with this, for the reasons given below:

1. Allowing any trade union to go on sympathy strike with another sets a bad precedent. Whilst we accept that workers working within the same industry should be allowed to strike with each other for the same cause, allowing all workers the ability to strike when differing industries have no direct affiliation to each other is tantamount to madness. Why should the entire Country be brought to a halt because one set of workers has a problem with their management. Why should nurses strike in order to support bin men? What possible advantage does that cause to the bin men?

2. To allow all workers to strike is dangerous. We should not be allowing those people who perform vital services for this nation to strike. If the nurses strike, what about the patients, who cares for them? If the police strike, we have no way of stopping crime. Do we allow our armed forces to go on strike?
We might consider supporting the position of allowing vital services to strike, but only so long as a minimal service is provided at all times (and further description of allowances within the bill).

3. We find ourselves confused over this issue. The Liberals state that they support democracy for the workers, and yet they remove the basic democratic tenant from the current legislation, i.e. that the Unions require a vote of members before going on strike. How does allowing Unions to go on strike without first balloting their members to see whether they support such action democratic?

MessageWhile we vigorously disagree with the WSS!P on this issue, we appreciate the ideological consistency of their rebuttals: they have been vigorous opponents of liberty for employers as well as employees.

MessageWe are not against liberty for either the employer or the employee, but when we have laws that stipulate that anyone can go on strike for any reason but that employers can fire any worker who strikes we feel we must point out the idiocy of such legislation.

Random fact: In Culturally Protected nations, special care must be taken to ensure realism is maintained when role-playing a government controlled by an ethnic and/or religious minority. If it is to be supposed that this government is supported by a majority of the population, then this should be plausibly and sufficiently role-played. The burden of proof is on the player or players role-playing such a regime to demonstrate that it is being done realistically
