Bill: Free Assembly Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: Leviathan Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: August 2041

Description[?]:

Too often, the police use the excuse of 'public safety' to impose de facto restrictions on free speech. The right to free expression is too important to a functioning democracy to allow a chilling effect when security rules through scrutiny.

MessageWe disagree with the bill, the arguement which has been put by the Leviathan Party does not reflect upon the reality. In reality the police is a organisation devoted to uphold the law and order in the nation, they have no right to inflict damage upon the rights of free speech and therefore it will not happen in a civilized community, but extreme situations demands extreme solutions. Let us say that a group of people are demonstrating against immigrants and there is another group that demonstrates against the first group, the police and state knows that a conflict between them will arise unless something is made to prevent it, should not the police then have the right to disperse one, or both, group(s) to prevent unnecessary damage being done to the society, both in terms of personal unjuries but also to buildings and other traits?

MessageExisting public order laws should be used when people act in a threatening manner.

Message"Existing public order laws" will be useless as there will be nothing to stop them with, any government interference will be looked upon as an attack upon the peoples right of free speech.
