Bill: Budget proposal of January 2599

Details

Submitted by[?]: Liberale Partij (L)

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This bill proposes to change the allocation of funds in the budget. It requires more than half of the legislature to vote yes. This bill will pass as soon as the required yes votes are in, or will be defeated if unsufficient votes are reached on the deadline.

Voting deadline: September 2599

Description[?]:

The Athlorcaean Liberal Party (L) propose to adjust the government's spending budget to better address the economic and social situation of the Athlorcaea.

Features:
-Reducing Foreign Affairs spending, in line with proposed changes to development aid policy. The remainder is designed to keep the ministries core tasks running (i.e. diplomacy and foreign affairs) as well as to provide token disaster relief.
-A slight increase in permanent defence spending, bringing spending up to 1.52% of GDP, up from 1.42%. Athlorcaea has a very modest military, but it's spending hasn't been increased in line with inflation in previous budgets. We feel the time is now, especially with the Zombie Extermination Campaign on the books.
-A generous increase to the health and social services budget, to account for the all "free" things that have been installed by the communists. The communists never did pass a new budget, and we'd rather see their policies well-executed than just plain unfunded.
-Efficiency cuts to education. Our education spending was very high in comparison to other countries.
-Efficiency cuts to Science and Technology, which was also set at unrealistically high levels due to the failed plans for a space station.
-Big cuts to Food and Agriculture, in line with planned policy changes and because agricultural policies are a matter for the States.
-Similar big cuts to Trade & Industry because the government no longer owns the commanding heights of the economy.

Random fact: When forming a cabinet, try to include as few parties as possible, while still obtaining a majority of the seats.
