Bill: Passport Approval Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Totalitarian Party
Status[?]: passed
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: August 2117
Description[?]:
Presently, anyone can obtain a passport for any reason, no questions asked. We believe this makes it far too simple for wanted criminals to leave Gaduridos, thus escaping punishment. We propose a cursory security check be made before passports are issued to citizens. The check will not invade a person's privacy. It will merely search a database to ensure they are not criminals. Upon successful completion, the passport is issued. |

Message | And your reasons for not supporting this are... ? There is no violation of the citizen's rights. They give their name, and a list is checked to ensure they are not criminals. No private information is revealed. They do not have to give any information that is not already public. We cannot allow criminals to escape justice by fleeing to a nearby nation. |

Message | I do not see why we should not allow former criminals to leave the country. This is just another layer of government that is more trouble then it is worth. |

Message | This is barely another layer of government. The citizen already has to apply for a passport, probably giving the exactly the same details they would have to with the security check in place. The process I have suggested will be transparent. The citizen sends gives his details, details get checked, details go onto passport, citizen receives passport. Also, if criminals know they can commit a crime, then obtain a passport and flee, they may be more likely to do wrong. Especially in cases where the decision is made just before the crime. We cannot go soft on criminals, especially in a nation like ours, with liberal civil rights. |

Random fact: Players consent to the reasonable and predictable consequences of the role-play they consent to. For example, players who role-play their characters as committing criminal offences should expect those characters to experience the predictable judicial consequences of that. |
