Bill: Retirement Age Act

Details

Submitted by[?]: The Green Manalishi Party

Status[?]: passed

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: October 2605

Description[?]:

Healthcare is improving; people can live and work longer but 75 is still a barbaric retirement age at present.
We seek to repay a generation of taxpayers not by working them into the ground, but rewarding them in their latter years.
We propose 68, but are open to hearing other suggestions.

Message68 is a rather odd age in that it may as well be 80. We personally would prefer 65, but this seems to be an acceptable middle ground.

MessageWe feel that the ECB has taken a flippant attitude to a serious economic and social matter. In those terms, 68 is a big difference compared to 70.

MessageThe ECB does not pride itself in matters of numerically measuring citizen's lives. Two years may be a large economic difference, but to tell a person they must work 3 more years after reaching 65, especially if they have health issues, is an even larger problem.

Health advances and a (once) well funded public health care system have allowed our citizens to live longer. But we should allow citizens to retire at 65, a reasonable and normal age. They may still work as long as they wish, but 65 sounds much better and is much easier in terms of health issues then 68.

MessageWe would agree it should be dropped to 65, our country is not rich and the age expectancy is not high. At the age of 65 only a few would have ten years left.

MessageOur party's position now as it was before when a similar bill was proposed is that the retirement age should never be lowered, it should only be raised as life expectancy increases continually.

MessageECB: we're not 'telling a person they must work 3 more years...', we're saying they can work 8 less!
the idea that 65 is a 'normal age' and 'sounds much better' is a political non-starter.

CP: We also feel that the retirement age should be gradually raised, but from a realistic starting point. However this nation came to agree on 75 when the life expectancy here is less than many of the other nations in Terra is a mystery.

MessagePresently our life expectancy is somewhere around 70, maybe lower. As is the retirement age leaves maybe 1-2% with a retirement at all.

Random fact: It is the collective responsibility of the players in a nation to ensure all currently binding RP laws are clearly outlined in an OOC reference bill in the "Bills under debate" section of the nation page. Confusion should not be created by displaying only some of the current RP laws or displaying RP laws which are no longer current.
