MessageThe Liberal Party appears to be selling itself out in supporting this bill, a bill it knows will be detrimental to pregnant women in a dire situation, and all to uphold a cabinet which goes against what the LCP apparently stands for. The Labour Party too, is surprised.

MessageIt is just odd that Labour Party, a party of center- left, a party which stands for human rights and which should defend rights of _all_ humans, is so passionately defending women's right to choose (which is just an illusion of choice), and in the same time, it denies unborn children, ubnorn human beings their fundamental right: right to live!

MessageAs a party of the socialist left we have made our position clear. Legislation which makes vulnerable women face the prospect of death at the hands of a backstreet abortionist is unacceptable. We have made proposals and recommendations in the past that greater social and economic equality, free contraception and a broad campaign to reduce unwanted pregancy, and prevent women having to have an abortion because of social or economic inequality is the way forward. It is clear, however, that the RRDF is more favourable to a restrictive course than one which will increase equality, and spread contraceptives and in the process reduce abortion. Legal abortion will continue at a high level during the first trimester unless its root causes are tackled. This legislation will do nothing except perhaps leave a few more women to bleed out in back alleys.

MessageRRDF has also made its position clear: we respect human rights, but stress that there are also some responsibilities in the society. The priority here is to protect human lives, especially those who cannot protect by themselves - unborn children, unborn human beings which are alive, even with 2 or 3 months or even less in mother's uterus.

We therefore do not support abortion in the second and third semester, and we would rather prohibit abortion at all, but understand that it is not possible at this moment. With this law, abortions in second and third semester are not only illegal, they are discouraged. We supported and continute to support extensive program of sexual education (and if LP remembers, we wouldn't allow an opt-out option for sex-ed). We do not support subsidies on contraception because 1) it's government over-intervention in the market 2) we do not believe that there are so many unwanted pregnancy that we would support free contraceptives, 3) we want people to choose by themselves, but education is here the priority!

We put stress on education and information campaign about this health, sexual and family issues, but do not want to send wrong message by allowing abortion in 2nd and 3rd semester through law - how can we tell people about meaning of abortion (which is negative, RRDF does not see any positive aspect of abortion, except in cases of emergency or ethical doubt) and in the same time allow with the law the abortion procedure? It's contradictory; it's hipocrisy of the government. Our position is therefore very clear: extensive programs of education and information campaign, but also protecting human lives and sending right message with these law.

MessageGovernment intervention in the market is sometimes necessary, especially if you want to reduce STDs and abortion. The RRDF cannot claim to want to do everything necessary to reduce abortion and then oppose programs that would do just that. That is hypocrisy.

Random quote: "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, from those who are cold and are not clothed. The world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children." - Dwight D. Eisenhower
