Bill: Redistribution of Power
Details
Submitted by[?]: Kommunisticheskiy Komitet Evolutionisk
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This bill asks for an amendement to the Constitution. It will require two-thirds of the legislature to vote in favor. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: March 2606
Description[?]:
>{These youth and their fantasies of a non-communist democratic state are a threat to all good, working people. We must protect Trigunskaya from the mistakes of the young. Most of them will, by the age of twenty-four, realize the fallacies of non-communist ideals and shall work towards the greater goals. Yet also, conditions must be attached to citizenship, such as a qualifying exam that shall not only test the intelligence and political knowledge of the potential citizens, but also their loyalty. Furthermore, it is time that the farmers, the true workers of the land, the providers of bread, and the backbone of all hardworking people, finally get the power they deserve. The regions with less population are more rural and have more farmers, thus these farmers and other people of the land would greatly benefit by representing these regions more.}< \\Comrade Vladimir Chavinsky, Chairman of the Kommunisticheskiy Komitet Evolutionisk |

Message | This is very silly. The current electoral system is perfectly fine. |

Message | It will prevent the bourgeoisie from coming back into power so easily. Cutting out the voters aged from 18-24 shall remove a large bulk of their supporters, and the farmers are more likely to be in favor of communism because they have less money under the bourgeoisie regime. [OOC] Raising the voting age actually does involve game mechanics, as the game is programmed with the assumption that younger people are more socially liberal. Also, smaller regions in the game tend to be less in favor of capitalism. |

Message | So, why are we altering voting mechanics so that people who are less in favor of capitalism and are less socially liberal get more say. Shouldn't everyone have equal say in a democracy? And communism and democracy are one and the same, right? Doesn't really look like it to us; you're changing election mechanics to favor your voters. Not that democratic. Don't get us wrong; the NF in no way against communism. Economically, we're pretty communist; we're against businesses and for workers and all that but we're also progressive socially. That's why we tow your line in economic matters but not in sociopolitical ones. |

Message | OOC: National Front is perhaps a somewhat unfortunate name for a "progressive socially" party. And incidentally, this country was run by right-wing zealots before we turned up. Believe me, we're not the socially regressive ones. |

Message | Eh, are you referring to the actual Front Nationale in France, which is a superconservative party? National Front isn't supposed to be an offshoot of that. As believers in governments as providers, NF believes that the national government should provide lots of services (i.e. national healthcare, even going as far as providing homes and cars to people). This isn't to say that all private companies providing these services are to be eliminated, but they now have competition from the national government . That's where the National aspect comes from. |

Message | Oh, and yeah, you guys aren't that socially regressive. Just more conservative in that aspect; you guys are definitely not that progressive. |

Message | I was more thinking of the BNF actually, but to be honest, pretty much every party with a similar name in RL has been hard-right. |

Message | Yes that's true. Now we can have a moderate-left party named National Front to join the party :) |

Message | I guess it's the national part that makes it seem right-wing. But then again, I suppose it makes sense in the context of nationalisation as well as nationalism. |

Random fact: Cultural Protocol bills must provide a real-life equivalent or short description for the ethnic groups, languages and religions contained in them, such that it would be easy for an unfamiliar player to understand (e.g. "Dundorfian = German"). Where appropriate, they should also provide guidance to players on where to find help with translations and character names. This might include, for example, links to Google Translate, Behind the Name's Random Name Generator and Fantasy Name Generators. |
Random quote: "A return to first principles in a republic is sometimes caused by the simple virtues of one man. His good example has such an influence that the good men strive to imitate him, and the wicked are ashamed to lead a life so contrary to his example." - Niccolo Machiavelli |
