Bill: Devolution of Agricultural and Environmental Policy Act
Details
Submitted by[?]: Dranland First Party (CC)
Status[?]: defeated
Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.
Voting deadline: October 2606
Description[?]:
The Reform Party believes that the policy areas in this legislation should be devolved to local and regional governments, where they can be more responsive and relevant to the individual needs of each community. We believe the federal government should be limited to dealing only with matters that are of a nature such that they can only be dealt with on a national scale, as they concern the nation as a whole - these matters include foreign affairs, war, immigration, trade, etc. All other policies should generally be left for local governments to decide, and their authority should not be undermined by a central bureaucracy. Agricultural and environmental issues are not of a national concern - they are of a local and regional concern, as different states may have very different needs to one another in these areas. Devolving policy regarding these issues to local governments will help them to create policy that is more relevant to their own particular needs. National uniformity is destructive to the particular needs of local regions, and we will not stand for it. |
