Bill: Competitive Education Act - Universities

Details

Submitted by[?]: Radical Party

Status[?]: defeated

Votes: This is an ordinary bill. It requires more yes votes than no votes. This bill will not pass any sooner than the deadline.

Voting deadline: January 2607

Description[?]:

A new direction for the personal bearing of the weight of university costs, to combat growing 'grade inflation' and the ready availability of 'soft' degrees financed by state money. Scholarships are an excellent way of increasing competition, and ensuring that the best people are rewarded for hard work.

The opposition may claim that this will discourage candidates from poorer families from applying, but the availability of scholarships allows them a great help if they are good enough standing. This is not a war on broken families, but a war on grade inflation and government waste.

Education and Culture Minister

MessageWe are not against government subsidized loans, but we believe it to be very much in our interest economically speaking to insure that qualified students are not barred from attending college simply for financial reasons. Furthermore, this does nothing to increase the "competitiveness" of education, it only increases the socio-economic discrimination of education.
