MessageNo, in a democracy, people do not have the right not to be insulted.

MessageDoes the DSP not understand the definition of malice? Well, here is is:

"Malice is a legal term referring to a party's intention to do injury to another party."

People say bad things to people in the heat of the moment, not meaning to do them harm. We have seen it occur in this very legislature. The change prevents people from overreacting to a potential slip of the tongue.

MessageLet us say then, that a really oppressive party won the election, and established a dictatorship, if free Kirlawans called for revolution and their hanging, they could arrest us under your law.

MessageNo. Read the law. It only allows for legal action, NOT criminal.

MessageWe're confused. This proposal would take a law that "people can sue over X", and change it to "people can now sue not only over X, but also over Y", yet claims that this change "removes the possibility of frivolous lawsuits"?

MessageThis is a disgusting proposal. This essentially gives the potential to prevent a person from publishing accurate statements, should they be judged to be 'defamatory' towards a group, and this is not a road we should ever embark down.

Then again, I suppose this is to be expected from the party which gave us the abomination that is the flag desecration proposal.

MessageWe fully agree with the LPP, and urge the MDC, to stop the attacks on our rights as citizens of Kirlawa, whilst playing to the religious estabilishment.

MessageThe following is a message from MDC National Chairperson Dr. Sameerah Ali:

"An incredible mistake has been undertaken in our General Assembly. I was incorrectly advised by our Legislative Committee who apparently misread the current law. The only reason this bill was proposed was to attach a malicious intent clause to the current law. Amazingly, the LC overlooked the current law, as it is now clear malice must exist. I personally apologize to the people of Kirlawa and to the members of this legislature for any misrepresentation of the Movement for Democratic Change this bill may have caused. Action has already been taken in regards to the members of the Legislative Committee who misadvised me and our assembly delegation, and I make a stern promise to all of you and to the people of Kirlawa that a mistake of this magnitude will never happen again."

Sincerely,
Dr. Sameerah Ali, National Chairperson, Movement for Democratic Change
