No. No they don't. And that's what you are trying to change.

We'll not indulge your willynilly politicking that has no regard for tradition or consequence.

MessageSo, our citizens have no right to protect themselves when jumped by a criminal on the streets, or when a criminal bursts into their homes, brandishing a knife, or worse, a gun, or when a criminal decides to go on a shooting frenzy, and no one has a gun, or even a knife to stop him or her, because he or she has already shot and killed those with weapons due to the fact they were completely visible? Criminals do not obey the law. They find weapons illegally and conceal them illegally. If criminals have all the guns (and they do-our police force can only carry non-lethal weapons), then they have all the power. I am shocked that so many powers are showing so much disrespect for our citizens, and supporting a law that helps criminals more than anything.

MessageThe opening gambit of this bill was "The citizens of a country have every right to protect themselves".

That's simply not true - they do not have that right. That's the law.

As for the subject of how crime differs in gun-equipped and gun-absent societies.... The Berosian Party talk a good game, but it's simply not reflected in reality. In societies that are heavily regulated to stop gun usage, what actually happens is an overall reduction of fatal crime. Sure, there is still SOME gun crime, but it's a fraction of gun crime proportional to gun-positive cultures. And, again, sure there is more NON-gun crime, but that non-gun crime is far less often fatal, and has less collateral damage.

Overall - gun-absent societies are much safer than gun-positive societies.

Also - we feel amazed we have to point this out - just because our police force doesn't carry LETHAL weapons, doesn't mean they are unarmed. It is entirely possible to have non-lethal weaponry that is more effective at control than lethal wepaons might be.
